Is 40 Too Late to Write a Book?
I recently came across this question and it really stunned me. I couldn’t believe that someone would really think that being forty years old made them too old to write a book!
But, I understand where they’re coming from. A lot of us who have dreamed of being authors one day will have nurtured this dream from a young age, perhaps from the time that we first fell in love with reading.
Life, however, gets in the way of many of our childhood dreams. We choose a career and decide to study at university or go right into work, thinking that we might write the book in our spare time once we get the chance. Maybe one day there will be time for a sabbatical to knuckle down and focus.
But marriage happens and kids come along. Soon, life is a whirlwind of extracurricular activities and family vacations, busy holiday periods, promotions at work, more responsibilities everywhere you look. It’s easy to understand why that dream might slip by the roadside for a while.
Our expectations as children, teens, and even young adults can be unrealistic. We imagine ourselves succeeding in every possible way by a certain age – but once we get there, we find that it’s no age at all.
Is it too late to write a book when you’re forty years old?
Not a chance.
Is it too late to write a book when you’re sixty years old?
Not at all!
Is it too late to write a book when you’re ninety years old?
Never!
If you feel that the time is now to make progress towards your dream of writing a book, then don’t hesitate. The truth is, there will probably never be an ideal time for you to write your book. Something else will always come up to demand your attention – and if you think you don’t have time right now, there is a solution for that.
As a ghostwriter, my job is to write your story with your assistance. I don’t take over and do everything my way – I may give you advice and guide you in the right direction to help you meet your publishing goals, but everything the book is built on comes from you. If it’s fiction, it’s your story and your characters we work with. If it’s non-fiction, we use all of your expertise and experience to write something that will help, change, and move people the way you want them to be moved.
You can think of me a bit like a skilled assistant: I’ll take away your information, gleaned through a series of short interviews, and turn it into the book you want by doing all the heavy lifting. You don’t have to sit at your desk every night and all weekend typing away until your hands ache – I can do it for you. You don’t have to learn how to be a great writer, because I already have that skill. And you don’t have to worry about getting the project done around other commitments, because I’ll be working on it behind the scenes no matter how busy your days may be.
If you’re about to turn 40 or have recently, give yourself a birthday present to remember. Get in touch, and let’s get started on the journey to making your book dreams come true.
